There is no doubt that one of the biggest teams in the world right now is Manchester City.
They have always been well supported, averaging nearly 30,000 supporters each week even when they were in the third tier of English football.
Now they are ruling the roost, it is no wonder so many supporters want to find out how to be a mascot for Manchester City.
Well, that is what we are going to investigate in this blog, so you can hopefully walk out with your heroes.
Let’s get started.
How To Be A Mascot For Manchester City?
To be a Manchester City mascot you must be aged 12 or under and be a Manchester City Junior matchday member (at a cost of £20). Then simply fill in the Player Mascot Experience form each season and your name will go into the draw for every Premier League home game at the Etihad.
How Much Does It Cost To Be A Mascot For Manchester City?
The good news is, there is no specific fee to be a mascot for Manchester City as such.
Having said that, it isn’t totally free.
I know that is a bit of a contradiction in terms, so let me explain a bit more.
The Criteria For Being a Mascot For Manchester City
To be a mascot for Manchester City, you must meet the following two pieces of criteria:
- You must be 12 years old or under.
- You must be a Manchester City Junior Matchday Member.
If you meet both of those requirements then you must complete the Player Mascot Experience form on the Manchester City website.
You only need to complete this form once per season. The details will be stored from the point of entry for the rest of the season.
Two weeks before each home league fixture a draw will take place, and if you are lucky enough to be selected you will be contacted by phone.
You too could be a Manchester City just like Phil Foden was! See the video above.
Manchester City Junior Matchday Membership
Anyone aged 0 to 17 can become a Manchester City Junior Matchday member, although only those aged 0 to 12 are eligible to become a matchday mascot.
At the time of writing, the cost for a year’s membership is £20.
Being a Manchester City Junior Matchday member does bring a number of other benefits aside from the possibility of being a matchday mascot:
- A welcome pack including stationery, a keyring, stickers and a personalised membership card.
- The opportunity for meet and greets with players.
- Priority access for tickets to all home games.
- Discounts for tickets to watch Manchester City women.
- A free junior pass (when purchased with an adult pass) for a tour of the stadium.
- Entry to a number of exclusive competitions.
You can find more details on how to become a Manchester City Junior Matchday member on the Manchester City website.

Is There Any Other Way To Be A Mascot For Manchester City?
The club occasionally runs charity auctions to be a mascot via its City in the Community charitable arm.
City in the Community works across Greater Manchester empowering healthier lives through football via a series of programmes that ‘place physical and mental wellbeing at their core, whilst also creating healthy futures and healthy communities’.
The charity auctions raise money for City in the Community which goes back into these programmes.
To give an example of much you might expect to pay for something like this, a Manchester City Player Mascot Experience auction in 2019 was won with a bid of £1,100.
To keep abreast of these opportunities it is best to follow the City in the Community Facebook page.
What Do You Get When You Are a Mascot for Manchester City?
Well aside from the thrill of walking out onto the Etihad in front of tens of thousands of fans with your heroes, there are a number of other perks of being a mascot for Manchester City, including:
- The opportunity to welcome all players as they arrive at the Etihad for matchday.
- A pre-match photoshoot.
- A free Manchester City kit.

Does Manchester City Have An Official Mascot?
Yes like every team in the Premier League except Everton, Manchester City has an official mascot.
In fact they have two!
Moonchester and Moonbeam are the club’s mascots and they are two aliens from the planet ‘Blue Moon’. They sport permanent smiles, large eyes and even larger ears.
Unlike some mascots, Moonchester and Moonbeam only work on match days and are not involved in the club’s community work during the week.
Final Thoughts
So if you are aged 12 and under and a Manchester City Junior Matchday Member then all you need to do is fill in the Player Mascot Experience form once a season and you could be lucky enough to be selected as a matchday mascot.
The alternative is to keep an eye out for the occasional charity auctions that the City in the Community arm of the club runs, but that is certain to cost you more than the £20 fee to become a Junior Matchday Member.
Finally, if you are lucky enough to be a matchday mascot, enjoy!
It is sure to be an experience you will never forget.
